The Poets

Ta. Sin. Mim. End of Ayah 1 These are verses of the Book that makes (things) clear. End of Ayah 2 It may be thou frettest thy soul with grief, that they do not become Believers. End of Ayah 3 If (such) were Our Will, We could send down to them from the sky a Sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility. End of Ayah 4 But there comes not to them a newly-revealed Message from (Allah) Most Gracious, but they turn away therefrom. End of Ayah 5 They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at! End of Ayah 6 Do they not look at the earth,- how many noble things of all kinds We have produced therein? End of Ayah 7 Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. End of Ayah 8 And verily, thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. End of Ayah 9 Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,- End of Ayah 10 "The people of the Pharaoh: will they not fear Allah?" End of Ayah 11 He said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood: End of Ayah 12 "My breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron. End of Ayah 13 "And (further), they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay me." End of Ayah 14 Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call). End of Ayah 15 "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: ´We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds; End of Ayah 16 "´Send thou with us the Children of Israel.´" End of Ayah 17 (Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life? End of Ayah 18 "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!" End of Ayah 19 Moses said: "I did it then, when I was in error. End of Ayah 20 "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the messengers. End of Ayah 21 "And this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel!" End of Ayah 22 Pharaoh said: "And what is the ´Lord and Cherisher of the worlds´?" End of Ayah 23 (Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure." End of Ayah 24 (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?" End of Ayah 25 (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!" End of Ayah 26 (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!" End of Ayah 27 (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!" End of Ayah 28 (Pharaoh) said: "If thou dost put forward any god other than me, I will certainly put thee in prison!" End of Ayah 29 (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?" End of Ayah 30 (Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!" End of Ayah 31 So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)! End of Ayah 32 And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders! End of Ayah 33 (Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: End of Ayah 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" End of Ayah 35 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect- End of Ayah 36 "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." End of Ayah 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, End of Ayah 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- End of Ayah 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?" End of Ayah 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? End of Ayah 41 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." End of Ayah 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" End of Ayah 43 So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!" End of Ayah 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! End of Ayah 45 Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration, End of Ayah 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, End of Ayah 47 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." End of Ayah 48 Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!" End of Ayah 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! End of Ayah 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" End of Ayah 51 By inspiration we told Moses: "Travel by night with my servants; for surely ye shall be pursued." End of Ayah 52 Then Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the Cities, End of Ayah 53 (Saying): "These (Israelites) are but a small band, End of Ayah 54 "And they are raging furiously against us; End of Ayah 55 "But we are a multitude amply fore-warned." End of Ayah 56 So We expelled them from gardens, springs, End of Ayah 57 Treasures, and every kind of honourable position; End of Ayah 58 Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things. End of Ayah 59 So they pursued them at sunrise. End of Ayah 60 And when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken." End of Ayah 61 (Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!" End of Ayah 62 Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain. End of Ayah 63 And We made the other party approach thither. End of Ayah 64 We delivered Moses and all who were with him; End of Ayah 65 But We drowned the others. End of Ayah 66 Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. End of Ayah 67 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. End of Ayah 68 And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham´s story. End of Ayah 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" End of Ayah 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." End of Ayah 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" End of Ayah 72 "Or do you good or harm?" End of Ayah 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." End of Ayah 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- End of Ayah 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- End of Ayah 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; End of Ayah 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; End of Ayah 78 "Who gives me food and drink, End of Ayah 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; End of Ayah 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); End of Ayah 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. End of Ayah 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; End of Ayah 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); End of Ayah 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; End of Ayah 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; End of Ayah 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- End of Ayah 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, End of Ayah 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; End of Ayah 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, End of Ayah 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; End of Ayah 91 "And it shall be said to them: ´Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- End of Ayah 92 "´Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?´ End of Ayah 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, End of Ayah 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. End of Ayah 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: End of Ayah 96 "´By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, End of Ayah 97 "´When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; End of Ayah 98 "´And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. End of Ayah 99 "´Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), End of Ayah 100 "´Nor a single friend to feel (for us). End of Ayah 101 "´Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!´" End of Ayah 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. End of Ayah 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. End of Ayah 104 The people of Noah rejected the messengers. End of Ayah 105 Behold, their brother Noah said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? End of Ayah 106 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: End of Ayah 107 "So fear Allah, and obey me. End of Ayah 108 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds: End of Ayah 109 "So fear Allah, and obey me." End of Ayah 110 They said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee?" End of Ayah 111 He said: "And what do I know as to what they do? End of Ayah 112 "Their account is only with my Lord, if ye could (but) understand. End of Ayah 113 "I am not one to drive away those who believe. End of Ayah 114 "I am sent only to warn plainly in public." End of Ayah 115 They said: "If thou desist not, O Noah! thou shalt be stoned (to death)." End of Ayah 116 He said: "O my Lord! truly my people have rejected me. End of Ayah 117 "Judge Thou, then, between me and them openly, and deliver me and those of the Believers who are with me." End of Ayah 118 So We delivered him and those with him, in the Ark filled (with all creatures). End of Ayah 119 Thereafter We drowned those who remained behind. End of Ayah 120 Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. End of Ayah 121 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. End of Ayah 122 The ´Ad (people) rejected the messengers. End of Ayah 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? End of Ayah 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. End of Ayah 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? End of Ayah 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? End of Ayah 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? End of Ayah 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- End of Ayah 133 "And Gardens and Springs. End of Ayah 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." End of Ayah 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! End of Ayah 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, End of Ayah 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" End of Ayah 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! End of Ayah 227
